Bisexuality and Asexuality among Sexual Minorities

Abstract：Sexual minorities refer to sexual minority orientation populations which mainly including homosexuality and bisexuality. In recent years, the study of sexual minorities has received much attention, and the number of papers in this field is also gradually increased, however, most of these studies are based on homosexuality. Bisexuality and asexuality are overgeneralized as sexual minorities, and few studies have specifically kept an eye on them, so they become the invisible groups in sexual minorities. This article reviews the definition of bisexuality and asexuality and the related empirical literature about them, with the order to clarify that bisexuality and asexuality are special sexual orientation, which are different from homosexuality and heterosexuality. Although there is no unified definition of bisexuality at present, we have found the evidence that bisexuality is a special sexual orientation and is different from homosexuality and heterosexuality, and the evidence was fished up from the reaction for sexual stimulus, such the assessment of sexual attraction, viewing time, genital response and pupil dilation. At present, researchers focus on the definition of asexuality, and the core index of the definition is sexual attraction, which means whether a people have the desire to have sex with other people. In order to further clarify the definition of asexuality, researchers state that asexuality is not mean that they don't have the romantic attraction and asexuality is also different from sexual dysfunction. Finally, the future research on sexual orientation should pay more attention to the study of bisexuality and asexuality.
