A Novel Relative Reference Signal Time Difference Method for Indoor Positioning Services

Abstract:The ever increasing needs of the location services market call for more accurate positioning, especially in the indoor environment, where Global Positioning System (GPS) is unavailable. Some positioning technologies, such as Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA), Uplink Time Difference of Arrival (UTDOA) and Enhanced Cell Identity (E-CID) in LTE, need enhancement to improve positioning accuracy. In this paper, we focus on TDOA-based positioning methods such as OTDOA and UTDOA which suffer from large distance measurement error caused by various factors, e.g. Time Alignment Error (TAE) from cells. Hence we present a novel relative Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) method to compensate for the TAE of cells. A test of the new positioning method has been conducted to better explore the performance of the algorithm. The results suggest that the positioning accuracy of the proposed relative RSTD method can greatly increase accuracy in the indoor environment without hardware modification.

一种新的室内相对参考信号时间差定位方法
摘要:近年来,随着科技的发展,对精确定位的要求越来越高,尤其是在室内定位中。OTDOA、UTDOA、E-CID等主流定位技术需要进一步提升。基于TDOA的定位会受到各种因素的影响,其中有一种是基站间的时间同步误差。在这篇文章中,提出了一种相对参考信号时间差的定位方法消除了时间同步误差对定位精度的影响。为此,我们专门做了一次测试去验证这种方法的正确性。结果表明,在硬件性能没有改变的情况下,这种相对参考信号时间差的定位方法能大大提高定位的精度。
